Grant & Kerrick Defend Titles In Haers Memorial Weekend Full-Fender Finales
Lotz captures career first in CRSA shootout for 305 winged warriors at Land of Legends
Canandaigua, NY – September 18, 2026 – Tom Skibinski, Land of Legends Raceway PR
The 8th edition of Gerald Haers Memorial Weekend at Land Of Legends Raceway got underway with 74 race teams converging on the Ontario County Fairgrounds historic half-miler for the lead-off tripleheader. None were better than Jimmy Grant, Danny Kerrick and Timmy Lotz as the talented trio swept top-honors in the fast-paced ‘Friday Fantacular’ presented by Bush’s Bargains Realzzz Dealzzz and Geneva Club Beverage to open the two-day, five-division card in Canandaigua.
Successfully defending their titles to highlight opening night for full-fender contenders, Grant captured the 16th Les Whyte Top Gun Shootout for Proctor Enterprises Street Stocks while Kerrick claimed the companion Smith Brothers Drywall Hobby Stock ‘Hoedown’ in its sixth running. Open-wheel action added to the last weekend of activity at LOLR with Lotz winning his first career A-Verdi Storage Containers CRSA 305 Sprint Car A-Main worth a cool $2,500.
The storied Top Gun Shootout was also the fifth and final event in the Empire Street Stock Series presented by Close Racing Supply and powered by iFreeze Storage & Distribution Center with Grant pocketing the $1,000 top-prize after pulling off a last turn, last lap move to seal the deal. Himself an 83-time feature winner at the fairgrounds, Marc Minutolo settled for a runner-up finish to secure the overall ESSS points title in the traveling tour’s fourth annual production.
Continuing to perform double-duty in his career-best ‘26 campaign, fourth-place Hobby feature finisher Minutolo once again spearheaded the popular and profitable “pack the purse” program that generated over $4,000 in lap sponsorship and bonus awards above the regular weekly sum afforded participating teams. Kerrick collected the lion’s share of $1,000 for his fourth consecutive win to close out the season.
The 305 Sprint Car showdown also marked round #4 in the five-race DisBatch Brewing Company-Stirling Lubricants Challenge with Tyler Graves leading the points standings heading into the Sept. 26 mini-series finale at The Dirt Track At Genesee.
A hungry group of both Big-Block and Small-Block DIRTcar Modified racers also signed in Friday evening to take advantage of multiple practice sessions provided by ninth-year LOLR Promoter Paul Cole on the eve of the high-paying, season-ending Haers Memorial at the venerable Routes 5 & 20 speedplant.
For the fifth time in 10 starts this season, Grant parked his black and gold no. 36 Geneva Glass-Proctor Roofing-Fratto Curbing-Washburn Excavating-J.E. Marine Chevrolet Camaro entry in Marine Blue Victory Lane in the night’s headline event. The Penn Yan pilot’s latest triumph was easily the most dramatic as he edged Minutolo by 0.042-sec. after authoring a last turn pass on the final circuit of the 30-lap marquee event.
“I just sent that (car) down, thought I was going over into that swamp over there,” beamed Grant, as the recently crowned Canandaigua points king began to describe his last lap surge to the checkers. “This thing had its tongue hanging out. Don’t know why it stuck, just stuck, was meant to be. I own this place!”
Continuing to pay tribute to the late LOLR Pro Stock champion driver Whyte, Grant has turned this Street Stock season-finale into one his favorite events, winning three of the last four Top Gun shootouts. Grabbing the lead from his brother Willy Grant Jr. on lap 10, the ‘26 affair looked like just another day at the playground for Grant, who started fourth in the feature.
Minutolo had other ideas, tracking down high-flying Grant in the closing stages before squeezing under the lap car of Mike Fellows to take the top spot with just five laps to go. The surprise move appeared to catch Grant off-guard, yet in the end only fanned the flame as he rallied to edge Minutolo by a mere bumper in a drag race to the finish line.
“We set the pace, if Marc would’ve waited five more laps he would’ve won the race,” figured Grant, after reaching the 40-win plateau in stock car racing at Canandaigua. His second Empire Series win of ‘26 gives him a tour-best six all-time with four of them coming at the fairgrounds. “Marc’s a helluva driver and to run like that with him, wow.”
“Was definitely taking it easy near the end. Saw his nose and it was ‘Go’ time. He had me for a lap or two but I just waited for the good old-fashion set-up. What a race to the finish line,” Grant declared.
‘25 LOLR points champion C.J. Guererri rallied from 11th on the 17-car starting grid to finish third and collect $150 from Debbie Everdyke, the former wife of Les Whyte, as the ‘Hard Charger’ Award winner. Willy Grant crossed the line fourth while Batavia’s Rich Conte rounded out the top-five.
“It was a helluva race, you can’t really argue with that, we put on a helluva show,” remarked Minutolo, following his third straight runner-up tally in the Whyte Shootout. “That’s one of the best races you’re ever gonna see here. Despite all the other bullshit going on, you can’t ask for a better race.
En route to his first Empire Street Stock Series title run, Minutolo won the extra-distance feature at Utica-Rome Speedway, added a third-place finish at Weedsport Speedway and fifth at Ransomville before sewing up the points championship on home soil. Shane Wolf Jr. from Susquehanna PA captured the first two ESSS crowns (2023-24) while all-time LOLR Street Stock winner Mike Welch was high-point man last year.
An heir to Grant’s success in the full-fender ranks at the fairgrounds, Kerrick has been just as dominant after closing the season with four straight Hobby Stock triumphs. And just like his mentor it was his second consecutive title race win in September although unlike Grant on this occasion he took the lead on lap two and never looked back despite four cautions keeping the scheduled 26-car field in check.
“Those restarts with Marc (Minutolo), they call him ‘Mr. Smooth’ for a reason,” noted Kerrick, with his four wins scored in just six events entered to improve his track win total to an even dozen over the past four years. “I just really didn’t know what to expect on them restarts. That one restart he stayed with me, thought for sure he was gonna get me and he never did.”
Third-place starter Kerrick needed just two times around the fast half-miler to dispose of front row partners Nate Peckham and Minutolo in the 25-lapper. Steering Jimmy Grant’s no. 36 Hobby entry, Pennsylvania invader Shane Wolf Jr. moved into the fray early on, jockeying with Minutolo while the father/son tandem of Frank ‘Bubba’ Burnell Jr. and Tyler Burnell traded paint challenging among the front-five.
Three yellow flags flew during the opening eight laps and each time Kerrick was able to pull away for a comfortable advantage back under green. A turn two spin by William Bradley in front of the leader required yellow with two to go and erase a seven-second margin while on the ensuing restart contact between Wolf and Tyler Burnell knocked out both top-five contenders to force a final slowdown on lap 24.
Kerrick was unfazed by the all happenings in his rear-view, with the #61 Fratto Curbing-J.E. Marine Maintenance-Knapp & Schlappi Lumber Co. Chevrolet Monte Carlo still carrying him to a convincing 10 car-length victory over the final one-mile that remained.
“I don’t know how much of a lead I have when I get out front,” Kerrick stated in the aftermath. “Those restarts with Shane right behind me driving Jimmy Grant’s car … he’s been out of the seat for awhile but I know he’s got what it takes to win. I was just really nervous with him behind me because I knew if someone was going to beat me from behind I knew Shane was gonna be the one.”
Eighth-starting Justin Eldredge survived the late-race carnage to secure second at the line with Keystone State chauffeur Josh Towner rallying from a lap eight tangle to reach the podium. Minutolo hung on for fourth after front-end damage with 10 laps to go ended any chance of the 2023 Hoedown champ repeating his winning way. Jeredd Dennis rounded out the front-five in a rare appearance at the fairgrounds.
Jack Terrell improved from 21st to finish 9th and earn the $100 Bob & Bonnie Thomas ‘Hard Charger’ Award while Isaiah Murphy’s night ended after suffering a major heat race crash on the frontstretch that resulted in receipt of the $50 Close Racing Supply Hard Luck accolade.
The 25-lap CRSA A-Main led off the opening night three-star show with another historical performance put on by the wild winged warriors. Outside pole-sitter Lotz became the newest fairgrounds legend, swapping the lead four times with all-time LOLR winner Darryll Ruggles to mirror his first win logged in 2024.
“Thought I wasn’t gonna get (win) this year, worked hard for it,” said the relieved winner, who also became the 92nd different winner on the CRSA circuit, now enjoying its 21st season under the guidance of Mike Emhof Motorsports. “I’m tired, I know that.”
“I just seen Darryl and tried to get the inside (lane). Got a good run out of (turn) two on him. Didn’t know if he was gonna come off the top for me to get up there but we got it done,” added Lotz, who joined Lance Dusett, the July 2 winner at LOLR, as well as Paul and Paulie Colagiovanni Jr. as the other first-time CRSA victors in 2026.
With 25 of the 31 entries qualifying through four heats, Lotz lined up alongside July 11 fairgrounds winner Matt Rotz before the Seneca Falls favorite bolted out front first aboard his potent #18 Papa's Place Pizzeria of Clyde-Blades n Spades Landscaping-Stone 8 Taphouse Triple XXX machine.
Making his first-ever CRSA start, class rookie C.J. Jones’ mount came to rest low in turn two to require caution on lap five and a turn three spin by Ethan Gray the next time around brought out a quick second yellow flag to keep a slow pace early on. Eighth starting Ruggles inched his way to the front in the meantime, grabbing second from Graves on lap eight although Hopewell’s hero had to hang around for a lap 15 restart to take his first lead of the night.
Graves blasted from third to first in a daring three-wide maneuver on lap 17 before Ruggles regained the point over the next half-mile. Following the final slowdown for Dalton Martin on lap 20, Lotz powered past both Graves then Ruggles on lap 22, setting the stage for his maiden trip to the elusive winner’s circle in wine country.
Paddock made a last-lap pass of Ruggles to steal runner-up laurels at the line while Graves and Darryl’s daughter Alysha Bay filled out the final front-five.
“Have to thank Brandan Warner for letting me run his (#21) car and giving me the equipment to do it,” noted Paddock, who won at LOLR on Aug. 27 behind the wheel of Jay Greenfield’s #27G The Shoe Leather Xpress-CS Collision & Mechanical/Maxim ride. “Track was awesome tonight, no dust out there to deal with.”
Added Ruggles, who scored his 50th career 305 win at Canandaigua on June 13 yet posted his 11th and last CRSA victory at LOLR in 2022.
“Just needed no more cautions,” lamented Ruggles, a seven-time LOLR 305 points champion as well as the CRSA titlist in the CoVid-shortened 2020 campaign. “You just get into a rhythm, then you get those cautions. But those guys (Lotz, Paddock) ran really good. Congratulations to Timmy, he had a good car.”
Heading into the final full-points event next weekend at Genesee, Dalton Herrick remains the current CRSA leader (2553 pts) followed by Graves (2510), Lotz (2364), Jerry Sehn Jr. (2184) and Maverick Coffey (2115). In the hotly contested DisBatch Brewing Co.-Stirling Lubricants Challenge points chase, Graves (649) tops the chart followed by Ruggles (642), Herrick (597), Lotz (586) and John Scarborough (583).

In addition to the opening night trifecta, nine Modified drivers signed in Friday prepping for tomorrow’s Haers Memorial. Defending GHM winner Justin Haers (17.874sec./100.705mph) and Nick Root (17.959sec./100.228) each won a Hoosier Tire for turning the fastest laps in the second of three practice sessions. Karl Comfort, Matt Guererri, Kevin Root, Chase Spoor, Gary Tomkiins, Wally Wade and Dylan Zacharias also ran under the clocks on an ultra-smooth surface prepared by track specialist Jeremie Corcoran.
LEGEND LEDGER
Continuing to boast $1,000 just to start the 100-lap Gerald Haers Memorial finale, a lucrative $10,000 top prize is at stake as the Pepsi Big-Block Modifieds take center stage on night two Sat. Sept. 19. In a crowd-pleasing performance, Justin Haers took the lion’s share back home to Phelps last year in the latest history-making century grind that provides a base purse in excess of $43,000 for the single-day, one-race speedfest, once more making this a can’t miss event for fans and drivers alike touring the Finger Lakes Region.
Complementing their Big-Block brethren in the twin-bill presented by Phelps Cement Products, Rushco and VP Racing Fuels, a Northeast Fall Championship Series event for Stirling Lubricants Sportsman completes this dynamic DIRTcar doubleheader with the 30-lap feature winner pocketing $2,000 plus thousands more in cash and contingencies shared among all 30 qualifiers. Canadian hotshoe Cody McPherson (Spt) grabbed the spotlight in last year’s title race run following his first-ever win at the fairgrounds.
The final ‘Saturday Spectacular’ of the season in Canandaigua leads off with Legends Inductee Night #4, on this special occasion celebrating the local speedway success of second-generation standout Tim McCreadie, who is also expected to climb behind the wheel of a Modified —#9 tribute car of Vince Vitale sporting ImageX Graphics— in his bid to qualify for the first time in the Haers Memorial.
CHARLIE DONK NEWEST MEMBER OF EXCLUSIVE CANANDAIGUA CLUB
Highlighting pre-race activity to help kick off GHM Weekend on Friday evening at the fairgrounds, versatile racer Charlie Donk was honored as the third member of Land Of Legend Raceway’s ever-growing Wall of Fame, joining Canandaigua lifers John & Scott Schrader in the Class of '26.
Launching a lengthy short-track career that spanned four decades and crossed two millenniums, the popular pilot from Macedon debuted in 1980 sporting a 1971 Ford LTD housing a motor pulled from a police car in Canandaigua’s entry-level amateur Street Stock class, eventually taking his first checkered flag July 5 in the Novice division. Advancement into the top tier Expert division by 1982 resulted in 10 feature wins and the points title. While a short stint on the asphalt provided just one Super Stock victory at Spencer Speedway in Williamson in ‘85, plenty more success awaited him in his return to Ontario County, this time in full-time open-wheel competition.
Entering just one show at the end of 1985, his Canandaigua career began and ended in spectacular fashion at the fairgrounds with Donk upside down on both occasions. A fiery front stretch feature race crash steering Gary Farnsworth Jr’s #42X Modified headlined that lone run in ‘85 while a turn one-two tangle in the CRSA 305 A-Main resulting in a broken sternum, back and ribs as well as a dislocated shoulder marked his final trackside appearance anywhere in the April 2016 track opener.
In between those rare red flag episodes, Donk was a solid contender in both Big-Block and Sprint Car competition, eventually racking up nine Modified feature wins (1992-2010) and scoring six more wheeling a winged machine from 2013-15 to give him 26 overall in Canandaigua. Placing among the Top-5 in Modified points nearly a dozen times aboard the familiar #99 ‘Gravel Express,’ he climbed as high as second in the standings as the end of his Big-Block days grew closer in 2010. Donk also settled for runner-up laurels on the final 305 points chart in 2013.
Previous selections are 2018 LOLR WoF charter members Donald 'Dutch' Hoag, Alan Johnson, 'Barefoot' Bob McCreadie and DIRT Motorsports founder Glenn Donnelly, Class of '19 inductees Steve Pesarek, Milt Johnson, Gary Montgomery and Gary & Donna Spaid, '21 honorees Steve Paine, Paul Guererri, Mike Welch and Fred Taney, ‘22 winners Danny Johnson, Gary Tomkins, Tom & Kim Ewing and Brad Ovens, ‘23 drivers Charlie Rudolph, Vic Coffey, Joe Plazek and Darryl Ruggles, ‘24 selections Adam DePuy, Jipp Ortiz, Mike Minutolo Sr., and the Haers Family, along with last year’s group that included Mike Button, Greg Hixson, Chuck Hebing as well as Nancy & Curt Sheradin, with each individual recognized in a timely tribute behind the main grandstands.
Land of Legends Raceway is located on County Road 10 at the Ontario County Fairgrounds, just 1-1/2-miles north of Routes 5&20, and is easily accessible from the NYS Thruway (I-90), taking Exit 43 (Manchester, Route 21 South) traveling from the east or Exit 44 (Farmington, Route 332 South) coming from the west.
