'Season Championship Night' presented by Filer's Powersports and American Equipment closed out the 2018 Canandaigua campaign and it was Dave Marcuccilli, Darryl Ruggles and Adam DePuy capturing division point crowns under first-year Land Of Legends Raceway promoter Paul Cole.
Since the dawn of the new millennium, a Modified driver had to hold residence in Waterloo to earn a seat at the head of the table for any season-ending Land Of Legends Raceway champions dinner. So it seemed.
That was until third-generation chauffer Erick Rudolph from Ransomville broke rank in truly 'Saturday Spectacular' fashion, stunning seven-time defending track titlist Matt Sheppard by a mere one point in the season-long chase for Canandaigua's coveted Pepsi Big-Block Modified crown.
Matt Sheppard was 35 when he won his last feature at Land Of Legends Raceway. After two months out of the winner's circle, 'Super Matt' scored his fifth Pepsi Big-Block Modified triumph in the 'Saturday Spectacular' to extend his advantage in quest of an eighth straight points championship at the Ontario County fairgrounds.
