Walking into the Land of Legends Raceway  on any Saturday evening, the two people most recognizable, to everyone in the pit area, are Gary and Donna Spaid, employees of the Ontario County Fairgrounds racing program since 1979. Gary has spent most of his time here as the track’s handicapper and scorer. Donna has also been a scorer. The two valued individuals spend much of their nights inside the Land of Legends Raceway officials tower. Earlier in the night, they’ll be in the pit area checking in the drivers who are in attendance.

Gary started coming to Land of Legends Raceway  as a fan in 1972. DIRT lawyer Andy Fusco then asked Gary to write a weekly Central New York column in GATER News. Glenn Donnelly, then DIRT president, would then ask Gary to handicap at both Canandaigua Speedway and Weedsport Speedway. Gary would eventually hold down the Super DIRTcar Series director position from 1985 to 2003. Gary also managed the DIRT Tracking Magazine and continues to manage all DIRTcar track points. Gary also developed a standardized point system for all 410ci Sprints.

Gary is now a retired school teacher. Donna made a living in retail and Blue Cross/Blue Shield and is also retired.

Gary and Donna have two children and both are in racing. Jennifer is employed by Stewart-Haas Racing. Brian is the announcer for the RUSH Series. Jennifer was also the first ever  50/50 collector in Central New York in 1982.

The pair still enjoy working at Land of Legends Raceway Park, after all these years, they have no idea when it will be all over.  We certainly hope its not for quite some time.
