GREENLEY GEORGE
MAKES HISTORY AS THE FIRST FEMALE WINNER IN THE SPORTSMAN CLASS AT LAND OF LEGENDS RACEWAY
There’s nothing better than getting that first feature victory in a short track’s top division. Greenley George did the trick last Saturday, September 2nd, leading the entire 25 lap distance. Doing it against one of the toughest sportsman classes in the Northeast makes it that much sweeter. And if that wasn’t enough, she also made the record books as the first female to win in that class.
“It was so nice. I had a lot of fun out there,” said Greenley, who became the fourth different new Sportsman winner of the 2023 season at Land of Legends Raceway at the young age of 18 years.
Like many drivers in the local pit areas, Greenley got her early racing experience from behind the wheel of a go-kart at Ransomvile Speedway. Greenley had plenty of success winning three times in the Land of Legends Raceway Park Maguire Ford Legends Sportsman class in the 2022 season.
The saying it’s a small world may be even more prevalent in the racing world. This was true for Marketing and Operations Director Tana Robinson on Saturday. “I’ve watched Greenley race since the go-kart days when she could barely reach the sign in booth,” said Tana. “So many talented racers have come out of the go-kart ranks and its cool to have been able to watch so many of them advance through the racing ranks. So awesome to have been able to witness her first win in that class Saturday.”
Behind the scenes with her team is her dad Scott, mom Eva, Kirk Tuttle and Dave DiPietro. Greenley also gave a lot of credit to driver Eldon Payne. Scott had several years of short track success in the DIRTcar Sportsman and 358 Modified divisions in the 2000’s.
Sponsoring Greenley’s racing effort this season is Scotty’s Half Ass Bumpers, Scott Stopa Attorney, Bud’s Apple Pie, DMS Powder Coating, Bicknell Racing Products and Hoosier.
